CEPA's Lead-Safe Certification

On April 22, 2008, the US EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) issued a rule requiring the use of lead-safe practices for businesses conducting renovation work in homes, child-care facilities and schools built before 1978.

Although lead was banned from use in housing paint in 1978, most older homes still contain lead-based paint in some form, either on interior surfaces such as walls and trim, or on painted interior and exterior surfaces such as brick or stone.

Firms performing any work which may disturb this lead-based paint, whether through sanding, scraping or chipping, must be trained and certified by the EPA to adhere to lead-safe work pratices. These practices include containment of the work area, minimization of dust and other particulates (such as paint chips) and a thorough clean-up of the area.

The dangers of lead in and around your home are very real and, as with all safety issues, Jamison takes them extremely seriously. We are proud to be a Lead-Safe Certified firm by the EPA, ensuring that your property stays safe for you, your family and pets while all work is being performed.

If you have additional questions about making your home Lead Safe, the EPA has provided a variety of materials explaining the hazards of lead in your environment, and how you can protect yourself and your loved ones against its dangers, not just during a renovation but every day.
